Group therapy a form of psychotherapy in which a group of patients meet to describe and discuss their problems together under the supervision of a therapist. There are several types of group therapy, including:
* Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) groups: Focus on changing negative thought patterns and behaviors by teaching healthier coping mechanisms.
* Support groups: Provide a safe space for people to share their experiences and offer mutual support.
* Psychoeducational groups: Educate participants about mental health, treatment, and coping strategies.
* Skills development groups: Help participants develop social skills to cope with mental health conditions.
* Psychodynamic groups: Help participants explore their unconscious thoughts and emotions to gain self-awareness.
* Interpersonal process groups: Focus on interpersonal dynamics and relationships, and how they impact mental health.
* Process groups (also known as interpersonal groups): These groups are often long-lasting and unstructured, and focus on the present moment.
* Conjoint therapy: Combines individual and group therapy settings to allow patients to learn in one setting and apply it to the other.
Group therapy can be organized in various ways, including time-limited, open membership, closed, structured, or unstructured. Group sizes: 3 to 12 individuals. Open groups allow new members to join at any time, while closed groups have a set start and end date
